Energy XP Mobile STEM Learning Program

THE CLIENT

The Energy Education Foundation (EEF) is dedicated to cultivating the next generation of energy professionals through education in the community, advocacy, and professional and technical engagement in the energy sector. The organization has connected students with real-world STEM concepts through immersive educational programs designed to spark curiosity and inspire future careers in energy.

THE CHALLENGE

EEF needed a way to transform complex energy topics into an engaging and accessible experience for students. Traditional classroom instruction often struggles to demonstrate how energy systems operate in the real world, leaving students disconnected from the technologies and career opportunities that surround them every day.

The challenge was to create a mobile experience capable of delivering meaningful educational outcomes while maintaining the excitement and interactivity of a science museum exhibit. The program needed to travel efficiently between schools, accommodate large groups of students, and support curriculum-based learning without disrupting the school day.

At the same time, the experience needed to appeal to a generation raised on digital technology and interactive media. Students weren't simply looking to consume information—they needed opportunities to explore, experiment, collaborate, and discover concepts for themselves. Gamification would reduce learning fatigue, enhance learning, and lead to better outcomes on standardized testing, while giving insight to future career opportunities.

THE SOLUTION

900lbs partnered with EEF to bring the EnergyXP vision to life through an immersive, hands-on educational experience built around active participation and discovery.

The experience was designed as a series of 16 activities / stations that transform school gymnasiums, cafeterias, and common spaces into a mobile STEM learning environment. Each station presents energy concepts through tactile activities, collaborative problem-solving, and real-world applications that connect classroom lessons to the energy industry. The activities include digital games, AR layered over 3D printed objects, short quizzes paired with physical builds, and Legos!

Students move through the experience in small groups, engaging with curriculum-based activities that explore the technologies, sciences, and engineering principles behind energy production, transportation, and consumption. The activities cover three major categories in the energy sector: STEM & Geology, Fossil Fuels, and Renewable Energy.

The entire experience is packed and moved via Sprinter Van. This format allows facilitators to easily transport EnergyXP from one school to the next. All materials were thoughtfully selected and designed with mobility in mind. Facilitators can unload / reload stations and materials within 1-2 hours.

EnergyXP combines physical exhibits, digital games, and educational storytelling, creating an environment where students become active participants in energy education. The mobile format allows the experience to reach schools directly, delivering museum-quality engagement without requiring students to leave campus.

EnergyXP is transforming energy education into an engaging, scalable, and highly accessible learning experience.

Because EnergyXP is a mobile unit, the program has reached many students and schools in the Houston, TX area with plans of traveling all over the U.S. It introduced them to STEM concepts through hands-on and gamified exploration. Schools gain access to a specialized educational experience at no cost, while educators benefit from curriculum-aligned content that reinforces and expands on classroom instruction.

The experience consistently demonstrates measurable learning outcomes through pre-program and post-program assessments, helping students build a stronger understanding of energy science, technology, and engineering concepts. More importantly, EnergyXP inspires curiosity about the role energy plays in everyday life and exposes students to future career opportunities they may not have previously considered.

By bringing interactive STEM education directly to schools, EnergyXP continues to create meaningful connections between students, technology, and the future of energy, one community at a time.
